Before taking the practical test, candidates will be required to pass Theory and Hazard Perception tests.  The theory element consists of 50 multiple-choice questions which need to be answered in 57 minutes.

The pass mark is 43 correct answers and is taken on a touch-sensitive screen, then followed by the hazard perception test consisting of 14 video clips about 1 minute long.

There will be a minimum of one developing hazard in each clip and one clip will contain two scoring hazards, worth ten points,.

Your score depends on at what point you click the mouse after the scoring window opens. This will determine the mark you receive (5 is the maximum, as time goes by the score reduces to zero).  You must complete both elements in the same session or the whole test has to be retaken.
